If you look carefully, you may see some of the brush I cut for the peas to climb on. This keeps them off the ground, and allows good air flow to prevent plant diseases. It also makes most of the pods easier to reach at picking time. You can use a fence or trellis made of cord, but the small brush can be mowed in with the old plants after harvest. A reusable trellis must be carefully removed from the vines, and could carry disease from year to year.
