Deep lid, shallow griddle

The up side down sheet metal lid has deep sides, and conducts heat easily. This helps quickly and efficiently cook the food in the cast iron griddle shown on the right. It is basically a frying pan with sides only a half inch high. This means less weight to get up to cooking temperatures. It will allow you to set the burner a bit lower while frying foods, but you still need a cooking stove.
