Resting off the flames
The food is nearly hot enough, so now it sits on a trivet with legs where the temperatures inside will equalize. Notice how little of the three sticks has been consumed by the fire. Yes, those ARE the same three pieces of finely split fire wood. Today I was just reheated cooked foods, but if I was cooking a stew or baking corn bread or potatoes I might only need two more sticks placed between the three to cook for an hour or more.
